Mathematics

Intent

At Thurcroft Infant school we believe that children need to understand the importance of developing secure mathematical skills which will be the key to their future success and wellbeing.

We ensure our children have access to a high quality maths curriculum that is both challenging and enjoyable. We will provide our children with a variety of mathematical opportunities.  This will enable them to be confident to take risks, develop an interest in self-improvement and to make the connections in learning needed to reach their full potential.

Our curriculum ensures children don’t move on too quickly, before deep learning is secured; As a staff we use our professional knowledge and assessments to ensure children have mastered an area of learning and that children are ready to move on.

We have developed plans which show the progression of learning that ensure children cover all the statutory objectives from the National Curriculum.  We use a variety of resources mainly from White Rose Maths and the National Centre for the Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM).

Through Children’s mathematical experiences we intend for children to develop their reading skills by their learning of new vocabulary associated with maths.
